Future Updates

The following Foundation Foods are planned for the October 2025 release of FoodData Central. Food selection is based on highly consumed basic foods and ingredients (as reported in What We Eat in America, NHANES) that are not reported in Foundation Foods.

  • Seafood: including mahi mahi, swordfish, squid, snapper, Chilean sea bass, Pacific/Alaskan cod, halibut, sea scallops, Patagonian bay scallops, snow crab legs, lobster tails, anchovies in olive oil, ahi/yellowfin tuna products
  • Vegetables: including banana peppers, jalapeno peppers, poblano peppers, serrano peppers, turnips, fennel bulb, parsnips, radishes, beet greens, radicchio
  • Fruit: including watermelon flesh and watermelon rind
